It’s impossible to pry any phone from a teenager’s hands, but the iPhone may be particularly coveted. A new survey of U.S. teens found 40 percent of respondents currently use an iPhone.
The report from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster showed a 34 percent increase in teen iPhone adoption since Spring 2012, according to MacRumors. The report also found 44 percent of teens owned a tablet and that 72 percent of those were iPads.
An additional 35 percent of those who did not own a tablet said they plan to buy one in the next six months. And 43 percent of those teenssaid they would be more likely to make the purchase if Apple released a smaller iPad priced at $299, which is expected this fall.
The survey suggests that Apple is doing a good job of winning over customers and locking them in at a young age, according to Munster. Sixty-two percent of respondents said they plan to make their next phone an iPhone.
Research firm IDC reported the overall iOS market share in the third quarter of 2012 was 16.9 percent, suggesting that iPhones use is more widespread among teens than for the country as a whole.
