Those holding out hope for device consolidation could be sorely disappointed in the near future.
According to FierceMobileIT, BlackBerry has filed a lawsuit against Typo Products. The long-standing mobile manufacturer alleges that Typo, which was co-founded by TV personality Ryan Seacrest, has violated the patent BlackBerry owns on its iconic keyboard.
The Typo keyboard is question is the brainchild of Seacrest and business partner Laurence Hallier. According to Inquisitr, the case is designed to fit over the iPhone 5 and 5S, connecting a full QWERTY keyboard via Bluetooth and keeping the home button out of sight.
BlackBerry, which Inquisitr said has been struggling to stay profitable, is currently up for sale. Its physical keyboard is one of the few left on the market in the age of the touchscreen, and the company has successfully stayed in business by marketing to the portion of the public that still wants to feel the click of the keys. The arrival of Typo could potentially drain that customer base.
