With the release of a somewhat cryptic advertisement for its Samsung Unpacked ceremony on Feb. 24 in Barcelona, the technology giant is hinting at the possibility of new features on its next generation of phones. The image released on its official blog introduces nine new symbols, each with their own tag: Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness and Life. Accompanying these symbols is a note from Samsung that "there is a lot of 5s." Yet they remained hush-hush about any specific announcements audiences can expect at the forthcoming ceremony, instead coyly deferring to the Niels Bohr quote that, "Prediction is very difficult, especially if it's about the future."
Of course, the quote and its implications made no difference in the tech sphere, where speculation ran rampant about the disclosures the Unpacked ceremony may hold. CNET reported that the symbols may very well suggest the implementation of new apps for each of the categories represented.
If these symbols do correspond to forthcoming apps, then users can perhaps soon expect their fitness routine to be enhanced by their Samsung device. Of course, there are hazards to working out with your cell phone – chief among them the risk of dropping it in the middle of an intense run. In that case, users will need a Samsung repair service to ensure their phone is restored to full functionality.
Samsung has plenty to occupy its time with until Feb. 24
Another reason Samsung may not be willing to engage with speculation about the upcoming ceremony is that it has its hands full with another ceremony – namely the Olympics in Sochi. As Phandroid reported, Samsung is busy providing athletes with goodie bags containing a new Galaxy Note 3.
