Nexus 5 very repairable, reports find

The Google Nexus 5 was introduced recently to much fanfare, thanks to its crisp display and small price tag. Not only do owners get a formidable smartphone, they also get an incredibly repairable phone. According to Techlicious contributor Fox Van Allen, recent teardowns of the Nexus 5 have found that replacing broken parts is extremely easy.

One industry repair service scored the phone an 8 out of 10 on a reparability scale. Compare that to the recently released iPhone 5S, which scored just 6 out of 10 when it was torn down.

The Nexus has many independent parts, like the headphone jack and speakers, which makes it easy to replace them individually when they are broken or worn down. There is also a very little amount of glue used throughout the device. While other smartphones and tablets are difficult to repair because of how much glue they use, this isn't an issue with the Nexus 5.

However, there is one part in the device that is tough to fix, and if broken, users may need to find a repair service: the screen. Geek stated that although repairing other parts easily is nice, having a screen that is difficult to repair is disappointing.

While the screen consists of Gorilla Glass 3 – some of the strongest glass on the market – if it does break it can be a costly repair. This is because the frame, glass and LCD are fused together, requiring a whole new front panel if the glass should break. Geek believed the cost to repair this part would likely be half of the original price of the phone, which is $350.

If Nexus owners are still wary of repairing their phones or the device is damaged beyond do-it-yourself capabilities, send it to iResQ, where expert technicians handle all types of Nexus repair services.
