DigiTimes experts recently reported that Apple has issued requests for quotations (RFQ) to supply chain makers in Taiwan for revised models of its MacBook Pro and MacBook Air series for introduction in June 2013. DigiTimes cited Apple supply chain sources, who noted that the MacBook Air 2013 model is likely to feature a new processor platform. Many ultrabook vendors are concerned that sales of the Intel-innovated subnotebooks will suffer due to the Apple release.
“The sources noted that pressure on ultrabook vendors mainly comes from the Air's price since Apple is likely to reduce the prices for its existing MacBook Airs before the launch of the new models which could take away demand for ultrabooks,” contributors Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai stated in the DigiTimes report.
DigiTimes' undisclosed sources estimated that for the total MacBook series, shipments will reach 17 million units in 2013. 9To5Mac contributor Mark Gurman noted that the DigiTimes report does not offer especially specific details about the changes that can be expected in the new MacBook model, but the source also said that people shouldn't expect any significant external design changes with this next release, as there were many redesigns in Apple's professional notebook for the last June launch.
