New iMac emphasizes slim design

The iMac has come a long way from its early years as a round, colorful plastic desktop computer. The new model Apple debuted at its October 23 media event aimed to impress with its slim design and updated features.

“The all-new iMac is unbelievably thin, yet packs an incredible amount of performance and technology into our most innovative desktop,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement.

The latest model comes in at 40 percent less volume than its predecessor, with a body that tapers to 5mm at the edges. PCWorld noted it is also eight pounds lighter than the previous model. The new models come with eight to 32GB of RAM. The iMac also features Apple’s new Fusion Drive, which uses 128GB of flash memory to improve application load times and relies on traditional 1TB or 3TB hard drives for storage.

A 21.5-inch model will be available in November, while a 27-inch model will be available in December.

For users relying on devices such as Mac mini or MacBook Pro laptops who don’t want to make the investment in a new machine, iResQ offers upgrades, as well as MacBook repair, in order to keep older devices running at a competitive level.
