MacBook Trackpad Not Clicking

MacBook /

You’re working away on your MacBook and all of a sudden, you go to click on an icon, but nothing happens. You click it again – nothing. You click a third time, which is quickly followed up with many clicks until you stop, regroup and realize your trackpad isn’t working.

The following are some ways you can troubleshoot the trackpad problem BEFORE sending it in to us for replacement.

First – turn your MacBook off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on again. Something may have happened that turned the MacBook capabilities off.

If that doesn’t work, you should go into the settings for your Trackpad to ensure it is active. Click on the Apple menu, click on software update and then trackpad firmware update. You should install any updates waiting.

You should then go to system preferences, click on keyboard and mouse, and then trackpad. Be sure the tracking speed and double click speeds are in the middle between the slow and fast. You can also deselect Trackpad Gestures to see if that will help.

You can also try clicking the box that ignores accidental trackpad hits, and check the box for ignoring the trackpad when the mouse is present.

This should solve the problem, but if not, there could be a battery swelling problem.

If that’s the case, it’s best we take over. That way we can get into your computer and find out what is really causing the trackpad problems. We can then replace the battery or trackpad. We offer both services, and we can perform them in just one day.
