Future iPhone may have removable back

People who love taking pictures with their iPhones currently have to buy lenses and other objects to really get the best out of the phone's camera, but that may change, according to a patent Apple filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Patently Apple detailed a solution that may give iPhones a removable back to be able to easily change out lenses on the device.

“The digital imaging subsystem is typically enclosed within the case of the device to protect the digital imaging subsystem,” the patent said. “The enclosure generally prevents direct access to the lens of the digital imaging subsystem for the purpose of providing any sort of supplementary optics, especially if the supplementary optics must be precisely aligned with the image sensor.”

The patent said it would be desirable to provide a structure that would allow the user to reconfigure the “optical arrangement” of the device while still maintaining the phone's value and its  image system. Several features could be added, including motion sensors, flashes and lenses.

With cool features like this possibly on the horizon, iPhone repair from companies like iResQ becomes extremely important for users who want to get the most out of their devices at all times.
