Common iPhone, iPod and iPad questions answered

Not everyone can be as tech-savvy as they'd like – but that's okay because we're here to help! When it comes to effectively using some of your favorite devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod mini, we have a few tips that can help make life easier.

How to factory reset an iPad or iPhone
It is becoming more popular for people to sell their refurbished devices or give old phones and tablets to family members. While iResQ's iPhone and iPad repair services are ideal options for getting any damaged devices ready for sale on the market or to be passed down, many people like to perform a factory reset on their devices as well so that all data is erased. As PC Advisor's Jim Martin recently explained, this is largely to avoid giving anyone access to any personal information such as logins or photos.

Martin suggested fully backing up your iPhone or iPad prior to resetting your device, even if you regularly use iCloud – just in case. After backing up your device, you can begin the reset process by tapping on Settings and scrolling down to Reset. Next, tap “Erase All Content and Settings,” and enter your personal password or passcode if prompted. Your iPhone or iPad will then prompt you to confirm the reset. Before handing your device off or selling it, remember to remove your SIM card because this can store your information as well.

Turning on an iPod mini
In a recent Demand Media article, contributor Solomon Poretsky explained that issues like a dead battery or Hold switch prevent people from turning on their iPod minis. If you touch any key on the iPod mini to turn the device on and it does not immediately do so, Poretsky advised flipping the hold switch to the off position, which should cover the orange indicator strip. Now try again.

If this doesn't work, make sure the device is charged by plugging in the iPod dock connector to the iPod mini, and making sure it is properly oriented. Poretsky also stressed not to force the connection, as it not fitting properly could indicate that the port is damaged and, furthermore, trying to force it could create new damage.

Here at iResQ, we often receive devices with damaged ports that prohibit the proper charging and syncing of iPods, iPhones and iPads. If there is ever any doubt whether you need an iPod repair, contact iResQ for our affordable and attractive repair services.
