Cities where iPhones get lost or stolen

While we are all susceptible to leaving our phone in places we didn’t mean to, a new infographic highlights some of the United States’ cities were smartphones most frequently are lost or stolen.

The infographic put together by Lookout.com found that among the cities that are the worst for smartphone loss and theft, Philadelphia ranked number one. Seattle and Oakland came in second behind the City of Brotherly Love.

Oddly enough, the Big Apple ranked ninth, behind Baltimore and ahead of Boston in the list of places where smartphones get separated from their owners. The infographic also noted that iPhones account for 70 percent of the cell phones stolen on New York subways and buses.

A recent InformationWeek article noted that phone companies are trying to combat the ability for lost or stolen smartphones to be used by anyone but their owners. Major companies like T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon are starting a database that will track missing phones by their International Mobile Equipment Identity number, which is specific to each device.

If your iPhone has not walked away, but maybe you did while headphones were plugged in potentially messing up the headphone jack, send it to iResQ who has plenty of iPhone repair experience, including fixing headphones plug ins.
