Apple’s next generation iPad mini expected to have enhanced resolution
Apple's next generation iPad mini could feature an upgraded Retina display like the larger iPad.

A recent report in DigiTimes cited Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources who indicated that the improvements and changes for Apple's next generation iPad mini will focus mainly on enhancing the device's resolution.

"The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple's Retina Display technology to enhance [its] resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series," DigiTimes reported.

MacRumors reported that this could be good news for sales as one of the biggest complaints about the iPad mini from reviewers has been that the screen doesn't have a Retina solution like that of Apple's larger iPad device. However, some think that the iPad mini's thinness could prevent the addition of a Retina display.

Technology blog AnandTech detailed that they do not expect the next generation will have a Retina display due to the restrictions of the device's size. It referenced what occurred when Apple added a Retina display to the full-size iPad, suggesting that in the case of the iPad mini as well, adding a Retina display could require a larger battery and more robust processor.
